ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is a technology for transmitting digital information at high bandwidths on existing phone lines. Unlike regular dialup phone service, ADSL provides a continuously-available connection. The A in ADSL stands for Asymmetric, which means that the speed of your connection does not flow equally in both directions. You can receive data from the Internet faster than you can send information to the Internet. ADSL simultaneously accommodates analog (voice) information on the same line, therefore DSL can be provisioned on an existing basic analog line i.e. Fax line

ADSL is well suited for the user who mostly receives information from the net rather than sends information to the net such as surfing the web, downloading files, receiving email reading news groups etc.
